Title: Understanding the sex-specific impact of metabolic syndrome-driven inflammation on post-stroke recovery

Abstract: Why do some stroke patients recover better than others—and why do men and women respond differently? Growing evidence suggests that metabolic syndrome profoundly alters the inflammatory response to stroke, influencing tissue damage, brain repair, and long-term functional recovery. In this talk, I will present findings from clinical studies and complementary in vivo and in vitro models that reveal how metabolic inflammation shapes the interaction between peripheral immune cells and the brain’s resident immune system after stroke. Understanding these sex-specific inflammatory mechanisms may uncover new therapeutic opportunities and pave the way for more personalized approaches to improving recovery in stroke patients with metabolic comorbidities.
