Regulatory mechanism for sleep wake pattern in health and disease?

'Sleep and wake are integrated processes that are fundamentally vital to life and survival. This regulation is made by a complex interaction of the brain's basic structures that include a series of brain structures and brain nets that are connected in complex networks - the so-called reticular activation system. Current lectures focus on the regulatory mechanisms: how is wake and sleep regulated, what role does it have for the meaning of consciousness, memory, dreams, and physiological processor at normal. Additionally examples of diseases involving these where these mechanism are involved.’
