Current research

My research focuses on interactions between motor neurons and microglia, the resident immune cells of the CNS. Using immunohistochemistry, optogenetics, and electrophysiology, I am investigating how microglia respond to changes in neuronal activity, such as those that occur in spinal cord injury or ALS, and how the microglial response in turn shapes neuronal excitability.
