He looks at our noisy world with concern

IN the media

The newspaper Berlingske has launched a series of articles - Silence in a noisy world - where they take a closer look at how noise affects us. The first article was an interview with neuroscientist Albert Gjedde.

Gjedde explains in the article that being constantly surrounded by sounds, screens, and a volatile flow of information has a huge impact on our mental health.

In the interview, Gjedde discusses the Default Mode Network, in which we switch off from our surroundings, look inward, and don't focus on a task or other external influences. This state is essential for self-reflection, creativity, and problem-solving, he says.

"There is no doubt that the phase where we are aware of our brain activity and think about what we remember and need to concentrate on in the future is a condition for human life to run optimally," Albert Gjedde explains to Berlingske.

According to Albert Gjedde, minimising digital noise is all about creating conscious pauses for quiet. He himself has chosen to change a simple setting on his phone. By removing notifications, Albert Gjedde has taken control so that he can control the input from the outside world, not the other way round.
