A new drug candidate to relieve neuropathic pain gets full attention!
The findings of the paper A high‐affinity, bivalent PDZ domain inhibitor complexes PICK1 to alleviate neuropathic pain was recently published in a Danish newspaper under the headline Danish researchers with great news: Hope for 1.3 million Danes with chronical pain.
The original paper, which was a collaboration between the Department of Neuroscience and researchers at ILF as well as Aarhus University, found, that the peptide, which inhibits the synaptic scaffold proteins PICK1, reverses maladaptive synaptive plasticity associated with chronic pain, without affecting normal pain transmission. The researchers therefore predict that the peptide will not give rise to the side-effects associated with current pain medication.
